Why Transportation Matters

Access to reliable transportation directly affects seniors' health, independence, and quality of life. Missing medical appointments, social events, or grocery runs can lead to isolation, health decline, and reduced independence.

Common Transportation Options

Options available to seniors include family or friend drivers, community volunteer driver programs, regional transit (MBTA and accessible services), ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft, medical transport services, and care agency coordination services.

Accessible Public Transit in Greater Boston

The MBTA offers paratransit services through THE RIDE program for people with disabilities who cannot use fixed-route services. Eligibility requires application and assessment. Visit mbta.com/riding-the-t/the-ride for current information.

Transportation Coordination vs. Medical Transport

Transportation coordination services — like those offered by Atilex — help arrange and coordinate non-emergency rides through verified providers. This is different from emergency medical transportation or ambulance services. For medical emergencies, always call 911.

How Atilex Transportation Coordination™ Works

Atilex Transportation Coordination™ helps families plan and coordinate non-emergency rides for appointments, grocery trips, social activities, and community events. We work with verified providers and keep families informed. We do not operate vehicles or provide emergency transport.

Planning Ahead for Transportation

Build transportation planning into your overall care arrangement early. Know the options available, understand costs, and have backup plans. Communication with your care coordinator about transportation needs ensures rides are arranged in advance.

Atilex coordinates transportation services and may work with third-party providers. Atilex does not provide emergency medical transportation. For emergencies, call 911.
